UNIT THREE Part One
Warm Up Dialogue 1 A和B来参加Leo举办的Party,但出乎他们预料的是晚会不是很热闹,所见到的女孩也不太酷,因此很是失望。
A: I thought this was supposed to be ⑴a big bash. B: Oh, it will be. Leo said it’s going to be huge. We’re just early, that’s all. So, What do you think of her house? A: This place is really cool. Hey, ⑵look! There’s that ⑶chick, Jane! Guess what, she’s a real ⑷show–off! Don’t ⑸ya think she’s a ⑹turn-on? B: ⑺*Absolutely not! ⑻Are you out of it? Look at her face, really ugly! Come on, let’s go scarf out on some chow before it’s gone. A: What is this stuff? B: ⑼Beats me. *Just go for it. A: ⑽Ugh! *This makes me sick! Hey, ⑾buddy, this party is a drag. I don’t know about you, but I’m heading directly for the door. I’m leaving!
Dialogue 2 A(Jenny)想约B(Leo)出去游泳,但B有论文要写、数学题要做,Jenny主动提出可以帮他学习数学。
A: Hi, Leo, Would you like to go swimming this afternoon? B: ⑴*I wish I could, but I have to ⑵stick around the library the rest of the day in. I have a ten-page paper⑶due tomorrow. A: Oh, is that for Professor Smith’s class? B: Yeah, I have to do an analysis of a poem we read in class. A: That’s hard. ⑷How is it going so far? B: ⑸Not very well. And I also have to study a lot for math. I don’t know how I’m gonna do at all. A: Listen, Leo, I’ve been doing well in math, * if you want, I’d be happy to help you. B: ⑹Holy cow! That will be great, Jenny. Dialogue 3 Joe极力表白自己,想讨好Kathleen,但Kathleen 对Joe的谈话态度、内容特别反感……
Joe: I think you’d discover a lot of things if you really know me. Kathleen: ⑴If I really knew you, I know *what I’d find instead of a brain, a cash register. Instead of a heart, a bottom line. Joe: ⑵What? Kathleen: I just had a ⑶breakthrough. Joe: What is it? Kathleen: I have you to ⑷think for it. For the first time in my life, when ⑸confronted with a horrible, insensitive person I knew exactly what I wanted to say and I said it. Joe: Well, I think you have the gift for it. That was a perfect ⑹blend of poetry and meanness. Kathleen: Meanness let me tell you something about meanness. Joe: *Don’t misunderstand me, I’m trying to pay you a compliment. Kathleen: Oh, why are you touching that? What are you doing? Joe: Is this a red rose? No, no, you know, it’s crimson rose. Something you read about in a book no doubt. Kathleen: ⑺It’s funny to you, isn’t it? Everything is a joke to you. *Please leave. Please, please leave, I beg you, thank you.
