英闻天下——138 China Welcomes Iran's Nuclear Weapon Ban Decree(在线收听) |
The Chinese government is welcoming Iran's nuclear weapon ban decree issued by Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei:
"We welcome and pay great attention to Iran's decree banning nuclear weapon. Iran is committed to the Non- Proliferation Treaty. We hope relevant parties can enhance dialogue and cooperation, deepen their mutual trust and find a comprehensive, long-term and proper solution to the Iran nuclear issue. We hope progress can be made soon."
Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that a religious decree issued by the country's supreme leader, was binding for the Islamic republic.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters in Iran, said last year that Tehran was not seeking atomic arms.
He called possessing such weapons a "sin, harmful and dangerous."
Iran also said the edict should end the debate over whether Tehran is pursuing atomic arms.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said they would continue the talks with Tehran over Iran's disputed nuclear issue on Thursday.
The UN nuclear watch dog hopes to finalize the so-called structured approach with Iran and visit Parchin site, which is considered to conduct nuclear related test.
But experts and analysts expect little progress as the Parchin military site might remain to be a stumbling block. |
