China's rising hurdler Xie takes silver at XL Galan(在线收听) |
STOCKHOLM, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's rising hurdler Xie Wenjun, who shares the same coach with the country's star hurdler Liu Xiang, clocked 7.68 seconds to finish second in the men's 60-meter hurdles at the XL Galan, an IAAF Permit Indoor Meeting, here on Thursday. The 22-year-old Chinese failed to maintain his solid form since last week, which saw his personal best renewed for four times, and lagged 0.06 seconds behind the winner Orlando Ortega of Cuba. Local hurdler Philip Nossmy finished third in 7.79 seconds.
It was the third tournament Xie has participated in following his tour in Europe this month. In the previous two events the promising hurdler improved his personal best four times in a row in the four races he ran and finished third in the British Athletics Grand Prix, also an IAAF Permit Indoor Meeting, in Birmingham last Saturday.
"I am not quite satisfied with my performance today. I am in good shape but some small mistakes affected my results. Anyway I will continued to train hard when I return home and the outdoor season is what really matters," said Xie whose personal best in 60m hurdles is 7.60 seconds.
Xie took part in the London Olympic Games last year and narrowly missed the final with a 0.03-second deficit. However, the Olympic debutante was left out of the limelight for most of the time following his star teammate Liu Xiang's dramatic fallover in the heat. |
