Top 5 Countdown for the Week Ending July 6
We’re counting down the five most popular songs on the Billboard Magazine Hot 100pop singles chart, for the week ending July 6, 2013. There are some real fireworks on the hit list this week - fitting for U.S. Independence Day! It all happens in fifth place, where Miley Cyrus takes a giant step with “We Can’t Stop.” She ends a three-year absence from the Top 20, as “We Can’t Stop” rockets from 27th to fifth place. Despite some controversy over alleged drug references, it’s Miley’s biggest hit since “Party In The U.S.A.” reached second place in 2009. Florida Georgia Line and Nelly seem to like playing hide and seek with the Top Five: after falling to sixth place last week, they jump two slots to number four with “Cruise.” Earlier this year, the original version topped out in 16th place on the Hot 100; then Nelly jumped aboard and gave it a new lease on life.
Imagine Dragons draws a slot closer to its first Hot 100 victory this week, as “Radioactive” takes third place. The song is on their Night Visions album. It’s gone platinum and multi-platinum worldwide, while also hitting number one in Sweden. Nile Rodgers co-wrote “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk, and the veteran musician says he’ll never perform it without them, since he considers it their song. Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams remain in second place with their global smash. This week, Canadian crooner Michael Buble sang the song at London’s O2 Arena. Last weekend, British rapper Professor Green also covered it at the Glastonbury Festival.
Robin Thicke fans are feeling festive: he’s number one for a third straight week with “Blurred Lines,” featuring T.I. and Pharrell. Robin just released a follow-up single “Give It 2 U” featuring Kendrick Lamar, and his next album, also titled Blurred Lines, arrives on July 30. That’s all for now, but no worries - we'll be back in one week with an all-new hit list. |
