Bilateral ties between China and Vietnam have witnessed remarkable development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1950, the relationship has flourished into a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade volume reaching over 50 billion US dollars in 2012. China’s chief exports to Vietnam include machinery, computers, chemicals and textiles. China imports mostly agricultural produce from its southern neighbor. Vietnam is also a developing country.

After 20 years of reform and opening up, Vietnam has managed to maintain rapid economic growth. It has rich and diversified mineral resources and a strong tourism industry.
