CCTV9英语新闻11月:数万乌克兰人集会 促跟欧盟签定协议(在线收听) |
Around ten-thousand protesters have marched through Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, demanding the president’s resignation after he shelved a landmark agreement with the EU. Police presence was heavy in the capital Friday night, and authorities closed off main streets to control the flow of people ahead of the pro-European rally. An estimated two-thousand police in helmets and riot gear surrounded the demonstrators on Independence Square. There were several small scuffles, but no major clashes. But Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovich said on Friday his country still intends to sign an association and trade agreement with the EU, but he wanted the bloc to take "decisive steps" to draw up an economic aid package for Ukraine. Yanukovich told an EU Summit in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, that Ukraine "has turned out to be alone in dealing with serious financial and economic problems."
