Indonesian doctors say it could take up to a fortnight to determine what killed the Queensland mother and daughter who died suddenly in Bali. Media reports say their families requested their bodies be returned to Australia for an autopsy. Forensic doctors say initial examinations indicate the pair choked. Indonesian authorities say the Australian navy forced an asylum-seeker boat back into Indonesian waters last month. The incident allegedly happened shortly before Christmas Island. But it's only now been, sorry, before Christmas...but it's only now been reported in local Indonesian media. Indonesia's government newswire Antara says police arrested 47 asylum seekers when their boat ran aground on Roat Island after running out of fuel.
Parts of the United States are getting ready for potentially record-breaking low temperatures. Cold,arctic air known as a polar vortex(涡旋,旋风)is bringing freezing weather to the mid-east. Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has urged residents in the embattled city of Fallujah to force out the militants. Iraqi forces are preparing to re-capture the city. Mr Maliki says if the people repel what he calls terrorists, they will be spared an all-out(全力的) assault.
Police have charged a man over a fatal stabbing of a homeless man in central Melbourne. Forty-two-year-old Whim Perry was stabbed in a park early on Sunday morning, but died later in hospital. Police have charged the 19-year-old man with his murder and he will face court later today. |
