Showers and thunderstorms are being triggered by a trough stretching from the southern Northern Territory to northern New South Wales. A monsoon trough over Western Australia, the Territory and Queensland is generating heavy showers and storms. While cool, southwesterly winds are driving isolated showers over Tasmania and southern Victoria.

Looking around the country.

Showers and storms across far north Queensland with light rain and showers elsewhere.

A few showers for New South Wales' far northeast with a cool, southerly wind spreading along the south coast.

Sunny and dry throughout Victoria. It will be a bit warmer up in the north.

Most sunny in Tasmania with light showers clearing along the north coast.

South Australia's east will be sunny and dry with a few showers for the west.

Over to Western Australia, areas of light rain easing in the south. Showers and storms across the Kimberly.

And in the Territory, windy with isolated storms in the north, clear and cool in the south.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's forecast for the capital cities: cloudy in Brisbane, mostly sunny in Sydney, sunny in Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide, mostly sunny in Perth and some showers in Darwin.
