1. Western leaders are condemning Crimea’s declaration of independent from Ukraine and Russia’s support of that break. President Barak Obama froze US assets of seven Russian officials. The European Union issued similar freezes in travel ban.

2. President Obama met with Palestinian President Muhammad Abbas Monday. The two are meeting ahead of next moth's deadline for creating a framework for peace negotiations with Israel. Obama held the similar meeting with Israel’s Prime Minister a couple of weeks ago.

3. Paris is fighting back against smog. Officials banned about half of the city’s vehicles from driving on Monday, those with even numbered license plates. Police issued tickets to offenders.

4. Some dapper dogs competed in the 4th annual beautiful bulldog contest. Dress in their finest tutus and bow ties, they raised money for scholarships to South Carolina’s Citadel College.
