The local share market has ended the session higher helped by gains for the big banks. If we take a look at the final numbers, the All Ords finished 12 points higher, while the ASX 200 added 13 points. The big banks finished higher. Westpac did the best. Tesltra closed higher again with the gain of 0.4%. And shares in Treasury Wine Estates added almost 5%. On reports, a Chinese firm is considering making a takeover bid for the Wine Giant. Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei is up 124 points while the Hang Seng is up 13. And the Australian dollar is currently buying 92.4 US cents. Rents are continuing to fall further behind a surging home prices leading to concerns that investors are mostly gambling on potential capital gains. Figures on real estate analysts’ RP Data show growth in rents has continued to slow, increasing around the slowest pace since before the global final crisis. Sydney is the only city where rent increases outpaced general inflation as measured by the Bureau of Statistics.
And Italy has announced it will start reporting prostitution and illegal drug sales in its official growth domestic product figures. The country’s National Institute of Statistics says from September, Italy will include estimates on the value of such legal activities. The move has been driven by new European Union rules requiring nations to include all activities that produce income in the national accounts or gallous of their legality |
