Super typhoon Rammasun has left parts of south China devastated. It ripped through Hainan Friday afternoon, and unleashed mayday on two more provinces thereafter.

This is Bei Gang, located north of Hainan province. Typhoon Rummasun greeted the island with a force of rising tides, leaving it in disarray.

When the high floods retreated dead bodies of animal carcasses were found littered on the ground. All that is left are toppled houses, scattered roofs and a town without power.

" The tide rose much faster than we expected. After only half an hour, the water was up to one meter high, and the whole island was overwhelmed by water," local resident Chen Yijun said.

According to locals, who were left to their own devices, young people voluntarily mobilized the elderly and young to safer grounds.

Six vessels of relief goods have been sent here, enough to cover only two days of supplies for this small island of more than a thousand people.

For now the residents on Bei Gang island will need to make do with what limited resources they have—sharing shelters and subsisting on relief send by local authorities. An uncomfortable setting until power and water supply is restored.
