TransAsia Airways flight GE 222 crashed on the resort island of Penghu in Taiwan Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of 48 people, and injuring 10 others. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has conveyed condolences to the victims’s families through the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

The plane took off from Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung, heading for the island of Makong, but crashed as it approached its destination in Huxi township of Penghu County. Flight GE222 was carrying 54 passengers and a crew of four. It supposed to take off at 4 pm but was delayed almost two hours due to bad weather.
