CCTV9英语新闻:从昆山工厂事故看企业危机管理失灵(在线收听) |
Following the deadly factory explosion on Saturday morning, many other factories in the city have suspended production on Sunday for more thorough safety hazard checks. Many also say the incident has posed doubts about the effectiveness of safety supervision in Kunshan, a city well known for its role as an intensified production base in China.
Kunshan is a county-level city located in east China’s Jiangsu Province, just 70 kilometers away from Shanghai. With its geographic advantages, the city has since the 1990s rapidly grown into a capital-intensive and export-oriented economy.
According to a local government report, by the end of 2012 Kunshan had attracted over 5,000 investment projects from 65 countries and regions, with total investment at over $30 billion. Over 60 Fortune 500 companies have set up factories in the city. In 2013, the city’s total industrial output value stood at almost 890 billion Yuan or $150 billion.
