Video posted online appears to show supporters of the Islamic State celebrating after capturing a major military base in northeastern Syria. This victory is part of the Jihadist group's aggressive push to consolidate its hold on northern and eastern provinces along the Syria-Iraq border. It's the 3rd military base in the area to fall to extremists since last month.

 

And an American journalist kidnapped and held hostage for nearly 2 years by Al-Qaida-linked group in Syria is free. Peter Theo Curtis, who wrote under the byline Theo Padnos, was released less than a week after the beheading of American journalist James Foley by Islamic militants.

 

And a young elk wandered into an office building in eastern Germany. Footage aired Germany television showed the animal standing calmly in a corridor after he apparently broke a glass door.
