A 59-member Chinese team has arrived in Sierra Leone as China says it will continue to do its part to contain Ebola. The team will be based at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, some 30 kilometers east of the capital city of Freetown.
They will carry out lab screening and testing to help the West African country combat the Ebola epidemic.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says the outbreak is a major issue for Chinese authorities.

"China has been highly concerned of the Western African countries since the outbreak of Ebola epidemic. We have been strongly supporting their efforts in fighting the virus and offered humanitarian medical assistance to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau in the first time. China will continue to work with the international community and contribute to the early control of Ebola epidemic."
China has already dispatched 174 medical experts to Ebola-hit countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Meantime, a former nurse in the UK became the first person in the UK to receive an experimental Ebola vaccine in an early trial to test its safety.
The 48-year old says she feels fine after an injection of the medicine.
Scientists hope the trial will be finished by the end of this year.
So far, the current outbreak has killed at least 2,400 people. |
