Police in Hong Kong have again urged protesters to leave the streets, after more than a month of demonstrations in which protesters have camped out on major roads and paralyzed traffic.

At a press conference Wednesday, police chief superintendent Hui Chun-tak said the demonstrations have caused chaos to the public and disrupted security and order.

"The general public have been greatly affected by the protests during the past month, including their daily life, work and classes. The protests have also left people to cope with the clashes caused by illegal blockade of roads, as well as other threats posed by the unlawful actions. This has to end as soon as possible," Hui said.

The police chief said the prolonged occupation of roads and disregard of the court injunction are outright breaches of the law and have dented the spirit of law, which is a core value of Hong Kong’s society.

He also said the protests have deviated from the principles of peace and non-violence that the organizes touted at the beginning.

According to the police, 310 people have been arrested for illegal assembly, assaults and other charges since the protests started. Sixty four police officers were injured.
