2. In Berlin, European leaders both old and new are recognizing the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Wall separated east and west Berlin for nearly 30 years and became a concrete symbol of the cold war. The ceremonies conclude with a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Brandenburg Gate.
