The company that owns the Eastern Star ship, which sank in the Yangtze River Monday night, has been assisting with rescue work and is getting in touch with the families of crew members.
"Our company's people have gone to the front line in Hubei to assist relevant local departments on the rescue work and reception of family members, and to deal with the aftermath," said Wang Jianhua, vice president of Chongqing Eastern Shipping Corporation.
Families of the capsized ship’s crew members are gathered at the Chongqing Eastern Shipping Corporation, in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, waiting for information.
There were 46 crew members on board when the accident happened. The company divided its staff into seven groups to receive and communicate with family members and work out arrangements for them to get to the site of the accident.
Chongqing Eastern Shipping is a state-owned transport enterprise, established in 1967, that runs Yangtze River Three-Gorges tours. |
