Pupils just getting back in session today, welcome to the show. First up, a storm at sea. There is a system washing over the eastern Gulf of Mexico. US coast guard said yesterday that gale force winds were possible on T west, and forecasters expect 3 to 5 inches of rain in southern and central Florida, but none of it was expected to be as severe as what this has brought to the Carribean, and one point, it is was in tropical storm Arica. Tropical storms are a scientific classification, it means the storm is organized, and has to stay the winds speed between 39 and 73 miles per hour. Arica's torrential rain brought mass flooding to the west Indian island of Dominica. Mud slide and flooding rivers killed at least 20 people there, some others are missing after being swept away. Meteorologist say the most deadly part of storm like this is the flooding n rain. Officials estimate the damage will cost Dominica tens of millions of dollars. In the mid 1300, no disease or war was known to have killed as many people as the black death did in Europe. That 's why you study the plague in world's history. What surprising a lot of people is that the plague is still around and can still be deadly. 12 cases in 7 states have been reported so far this year in the US. Out of those 12, 4 people have died, including an elderly man in Uta. Officials are trying to figure out how he got it. US health officials say other cases in California and George were linked to people who traveled in or near Yosemite national park. The plague usually turns up between late spring and early fall, and usually in rural parts of western state, like New Mexico, Arazona and Calarado. The plague is caused by the bacteria called U P, and most of the time, human get it from flea bite. Back on plagues reference, there was no treatment for it, the plague could get into people blood, and could turn their limb black, and that's why we get the term black death. When the plague struck Roman Empire in the 6th century, it went on to kill 25 million people, eventually the plague wiped out 16% of the Europe. And before there were anti-biotics, the plague would kill between 66 and 90% of people who got it. Now with anti biotics, that mortality rate goes down to up to 16%. So typically every year in the US, one person dies of the plague, and 7 people get sick. Sea, abnormal pain, n, if you get these sympotoms when you visit the area where has known the plauge exsit before, you should go seek help from your doctors. And you should definitely go to your docotr if you develop huge l, sometimes people with the plague they get l beside, you can check it. Also the center of disease control says you shoule never flee to road like squerrials and rats, and you certainly should touch them after they died. With some great * getting rid of the plague almost entirely in this country, better hiking go to long way, you cannot get entirely rid of the bacteria, it is not just the dark * bacteruia, it's still with us.
