The Award Committee said Deaton’s work has immense importance for human welfare not least in poor countries. 2. British police removed their officers who were standing Ecuadorian Embassy in London to keep watching Julian Assange. But police said they will still do their best to arrest the Wikileaks founder who has been holed up there since June 2012. 3. A day after technology problems delayed hundreds of Southwest Airlines flights, the carrier’s operations were running more smoothly Monday. Officials said workers fixed a failed software application that caused the problem. 4. The Vatican is opening its own homeless shelter that can host up to 34 more men at night just steps from St. Peter’s Square. The building is owned by the Jesuits, and the shelter was operated by Mother Teresa’s Sisters of Charity religious order. |
