1. The first presidential debate in Hempstead, New York was confrontational from the start. Donald Trump kept interrupting Hillary Clinton and called her a typical politician. Clinton pressed Trump to release his tax returns. 

2. Houston authorities say a disgruntled lawyer who shot at people on Monday morning had two weapons and more than 2500 rounds of live ammunition. The lawyer was wearing a military-style uniform with old Nazi symbols. He wounded nine people before authorities shot and killed him. 

3. Officials in Taiwan say closed to two million people lost power when a powerful typhoon made landfall. The storm hit Tuesday, with fierce rain and powerful winds, rounding flights and stopping train service. 

4. And the overflowing Cedar river is expected to crest in Cedar Rapids,Iowa on Tuesday morning. Residents are hoping a temporary flood wall will protect thousands of homes.
