This is AP news minute. 1. President Donald Trump met with Japanese prime minister Shinzō Abe at the White House today. During a joint news conference, Trump said U.S is committed to the security of Japan under all of its controlled areas. The comments imply a defense treaty with Japan could cover disputed territory with China in south China sea. 2. At a news conference, Trump also said he has no doubt he will prevail in the federal court case over temporary travel ban, and he promised to take additional steps to improve U.S security. The comments come a day after an appeals court refused to reinstate the measure, which affects travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries. 3. Congressman Tom Price sworn in as secretary of health and human service Friday, just hours after a narrow senate confirmation. Price is expected to play a leading role in the Trump administration's replacement of the affordable care act. 4. And in New Zealand, more than 400 pilot whales washed ashore, in one of the worst strandings in the nation's history. Hundreds of carcasses laid on the beach as volunteers worked to save those still alive and send them to sea during the high tide. Robert Bumsted, the Associated Press with AP News Minute. |
