The White House said today that President Trump asked national security adviser Michael Flynn to resign because of a trust issue, not a legal one. But House Democrats are demanding an investigation into Flynn's contact with a Russian diplomat about sanctions.

Crews in California worked to repair damage done to the spillway of the Oroville Dam. Dozens of schools in the area remained closed, and nearly 200,000 people who evacuated have been cautioned to stay away as the repair continues.

The half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was assassinated at a Kuala Lumpur airport after allegedly being attacked with a chemical spray. Kim Jong Nam reportedly fell out of favor in North Korea after being caught trying to enter Japan on a false passport in 2011.

In Manila, thousands of students, nuns and school workers took part in a huge dance event to express support for the global One Billion Rising campaign. The global day of action aims to end violence against women and children and takes place on Valentine's Day annually.
