Voters in Thailand have cast their ballots in a general election blighted by protests.

Polling in a few constituencies of the capital city and in most southern provinces was called off due to unrest caused by anti-government protesters.

But a large majority elsewhere were said to be peaceful.

The opposition Democrat Party has boycotted the vote.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called the vote to head off weeks of mass protests aimed at forcing her to resign.

A suicide car bombing has hit a gas station in Lebanon's eastern town of Hermel,

leaving five people dead and 18 others injured.

The Al Nusra Front in Lebanon has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The al-Qaeda affiliated group has also claimed responsibility for a number of other recent attacks targeting Shiite populated areas in Lebanon.

Hermel, which is considered the heartland of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement,

has recently been targeted by a wave of rocket attacks from Syria.
