Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Tajikistan as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with current bilateral ties and cooperation in various fields, and agreed to push forward major cooperation projects, including the China-Russia West Route natural gas pipeline. On the same day, Xi Jinping and Putin also held a trilateral summit with Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. Noting that the development strategies of the three neighboring countries are highly compatible, President Xi Jinping proposed to construct an economic corridor linking the three nations. The 14th SCO summit is slated for Thursday and Friday in the Tajik capital. From there, Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel on to Sri Lanka, the Maldives and India. Ten key Arab allies of the United States have agreed to do their share to fight against the Islamic State group. The announcement comes after a meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his regional counterparts in Saudi Arabia. Ten Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan promise to take action to stop the flow of IS fighters and funding. They also agreed to boost support for the new Iraqi. NATO member Turkey has refused to join its Arab neighbors in the pledge. |
