11 people were injured as a driver ploughed into passers-by while shouting "Allahu Akbar" in the eastern French city of Dijon on Sunday.

Two of the injured are in serious condition, but their lives are not in danger.

The driver was arrested by police after targeting passersby at five different places in the city.

A source close to the investigation said the man was born in 1974 and had been in a psychiatric hospital.

The attack came the day after a French convert to Islam in central France was shot dead after attacking three police officers with a knife while also reportedly crying "Allahu Akbar".

A bomb threat has been reported in Sliema, a bustling commercial town in Malta.

Police say they received an anonymous call on Sunday evening claiming that a bomb had been placed inside a McDonald's outlet.

There are two McDonald's in the region.

Police have evacuated two shopping centres as a precaution.

An investigation is underway.
