I learnt that there were three ships up for three-years' voyages.The Devil-dam, the Tit-bit, and the Pequod. DEVIL-DAM, I do not know the origin of;  得知近期内启航、航程三年的船有三条：魔闸号、美味号、裴廓德号。“魔闸”不知典从何出，

TIT-BIT is obvious; PEQUOD, you will no doubt remember, was the name of a celebrated tribe of Massachusetts Indians; now extinct as the ancient Medes.  “裴廓德”却略知一二，这是马萨诸塞州的一个印第安人部落，一个已被斩尽杀绝的种族的名称。 

I peered and pryed about the Devil-dam; from her, hopped over to the Tit-bit;  船有多种，你也许见过那些横帆船、舢版、帆桨两用船…

and finally, going on board the Pequod, looked around her for a moment, and then decided that this was the very ship for us.  最后,四处看了一下,然后决定,这就是我们的船。

You may have seen many a quaint craft in your day, for aught I know;square-toed luggers;  我在三条船上转了转，最后决定上“裴廓德号”。

mountainous Japanese junks; butter-box galliots, and what not; but take my word for it, you never saw such a rare old craft as this same rare old Pequod.  斑驳的船头，仿佛有一副很威风的大胡子，而那来自日本海岸的桅杆,你从来没见过这样的一个罕见的老工艺,还有同样罕见的古老的结合。
