Goldsboro, North Carolina pretty much shut down as hurricane Florence moved in, but the Waffle House stayed open 24 hours a day, straight through the storm serving up comfort food as the storm wailed away outside. I know, yeah, Waffle House is always open 24/7 no matter what. Nor rain or hurricane, it always open. This is a limited menu that we have for today.

北卡罗来纳州的戈尔兹伯勒基本上停止运转了，因为佛罗伦萨飓风正在向这里挺进，不过，华夫饼屋却依然24小时营业，风雨无阻。任凭暴风雨呼啸而过，也依然为顾客提供治愈的食物。对，我知道这家店，无乱发生什么，它总是全天候营业。下雨也好，飓风也罢，开店照常不误。这是我们今天的限量菜单。

One reason it’s so busy, hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians lost electricity. I’m getting a sausage egg and hash brown ball and a waffle. I came to Waffle House because I love this. I lost electricity in my home; I can’t cook, I can’t bathe; I do have water to drink.

这家店之所以业务繁忙，是因为很多北卡罗来纳州的人都受到了断电的影响。我现在吃的是一份香肠蛋、一份炸土豆球和一份华夫饼。我经常来这家店，因为我很喜欢这里。我家里断电了，做不了饭，洗不了澡，连水也没得喝。

The local Waffle House is something like a public utility in some communities. Waffle Houses are so reliable that Federal Emergency Authorities used these so-called Waffle House metric to determine just how bad a storm is. They come like a situation like this is always about our community, you know. That why it implies the tip might be good. They feel bad that we have to work till midnight. Everybody else is closed but we’re still open so for the most part. That’s why they would be so generous when they come to the tip. I love it, I can’t lie.

当地的华夫饼屋对于一些社群来讲，就像是公用设施一样的存在。华夫饼屋十分可靠，所以联邦应急部门通过以他为度量标准，来判断暴风雨的严重程度。一旦出现华夫饼屋爆满，就一定是我们社群出了什么情况。因此，有人没明说消费可能很高。他们心有愧疚，毕竟我们要工作到半夜。别的店都关业大吉了，而我们几乎是始终营业的。因此，顾客们给小费的时候都很大方。我很喜欢这种感觉，无法掩饰。

Today was three times busier than Christmas which is this locations usual busiest day of the year. We’ve been really really busy today. We’ve been busy since last night actually. Mostly everybody that comes here lights are out but we do get some customers time to time; they just want to come and eat with us in the Waffle House so you know, we still got to take care of them. For some companies, hurricanes are good business.

今天是圣诞节工作量的三倍，也是每年最繁忙的时候。今天忙得飞起。自从昨晚以来，我们就一直都很忙。大多数来这里的顾客都是因为家里断电了，不过我们店里客人向来络绎不绝也是实话。他们只是单纯地想跟我们在华夫饼屋里一起进餐罢了。所以，你懂的，我们还是要为招待这些常客。对于一些公司来说，飓风时节也是做生意的好时候。
