Take Away English-Concert for Diana 纪念戴安娜音乐会(在线收听) | ||||||
Her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry were very keen to mark these two occasions in some way, so they came up with the idea of a concert. They wanted a happy event to celebrate her life and a special concert in memory of their mother, featuring her favourite bands, seemed the right way to do it. The concert took place on 1st July at the brand new Wembley Stadium. 63,000 people turned up to see the six-hour show, which was broadcast to 140 countries around the world. 14.8 million people in the UK alone tuned in to watch the extravaganza. Elton John, who also played at Diana's funeral, opened the show with his hit Your Song. A host of other stars appeared including Rod Stewart, P Diddy, Nelly Furtado and Take That to name but a few. There was also a performance from the English National Ballet and stars also performed songs from famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. The princes watched the concert with their friends and they were seen on their feet dancing, clapping and singing throughout the show. Prince William and Harry took to the stage towards the beginning of the show to introduce what was their mother's favourite band, 1980s stars Duran Duran. They also came back at the end of the concert to thank everyone who helped to celebrate Diana's life with them. William told the crowd it had been "the most perfect way to remember her, and this is how she would want to be remembered." Nelson Mandela, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and others recorded video tributes and the concert ended with video footage from Diana's childhood. Proceeds from the concert will go to charities the Princess supported when she was alive.
