 Finally we started whistling to make him hold his head up. 最后我们开始吹口哨,让狮子抬起头来。

When we first whistled, he ran off a few feet but soon returned. 我们刚吹口哨时,它跑掉了几英尺,但很快就回来了。
We whistled again, and he just looked up at us. 我们又吹口哨,它只是抬头看着我们。
Now Dick caught hold of the two wires which controlled the flares. 现在迪克抓住了控制信号弹的两根电线。
To set them off the wires had to be touched together. 要把它们分开,就必须把电线连在一起。
The lion looked up just then, but he was not in the right position. 就在这时,狮子抬起头来,但他的位置不对。

Then this conversation took place. 然后我们开始了如下对话。
