Golden Globe winners announced Summary 18 January 2010 The science fiction epic Avatar has been named best drama at the Golden Globe awards in Hollywood. The film, which has broken records at the box office, also picked up an award for its director James Cameron. Reporter: Peter Bowes Report James Cameron, who's spent the past five years working on Avatar, was named best director. The film, which is on course to become the highest grossing movie of all time, is now considered to be in pole position to do well at the Oscars. The Hangover, a film based around a stag party in Las Vegas, won the award for best comedy. Jeff Bridges, who plays a country music singer in the film Crazy Heart, was named best actor. And Meryl Streep took the award for best actress in a comedy for her portrayal of the American TV chef, the late Julia Child, in Julie and Julia. Many of the celebrities wore ribbons in support of the people of Haiti. TV viewers were encouraged to give money.
