The National Weather Service says a large and destructive tornado struck Jefferson City, Missouri late Wednesday night. Police say there were reports of injuries and people trapped in homes.

Residents of several small towns in Oklahoma and Kansas were told to evacuate due to rising floods. In eastern Oklahoma, a pair of barges broke loose, floated down a river, and threatened to hit a dam.

The Pentagon has plans to send up to 10,000 more military personnel to the Middle East. US officials say the idea is to beef up defenses against Iranian threats. But it's unknown if the Trump administration will agree.

A video from Rome shows a man stuck on the ledge of a burning building. Firefighters brought a crane and rescued him safely.
