FIS Global, which provides the software that powers ATMs all over the world, is getting ready to roll out smartphone-based banking in the US.

Initially, the company is targeting 2,000 machines from a number of major banks with Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo already all on board.

In as little as a year and a half, that number could skyrocket to as many as 80,000. Doug Brown, who is the general manager for mobile at FIS, says that smartphone-enabled machines allow customers to complete their transactions much more quickly.
