Hollywood, Alabama: population 1,000… has been a dry town since the 1800's.

(Duke) "It's the Bible belt in this part of the country."

But Mayor Frank "Buster" Duke was worried with the TVA shuttering local power plants, they're out tax revenue…

(Duke) "About $2,000 a month. And in a little town like this, you know we depend on that tax."

So the old town voted in alcohol, hoping it brings in a gas station selling beer…

(Duke) "That will bring sales tax and gas tax into the city, so we can repair our streets."

Maybe restaurants, but…

(Duke) "No bars, no joints, anything like that."

And if the booze brings the bucks, they'll be happy.

(Duke) "Have one on me!"
