A 12-year survey project has concluded that an underwater mountain range-running north of Siberia-is a geological extension of Greenland-the autonomous territory already controlled by the Danes.

历时12年的一项调查已经得出结论, 横跨北极下面的一座水下山脉是丹麦境内自治领土格陵兰岛大陆架的延伸。

As a result, they say 556,000 square miles of the North Pole belongs to them-an area about 20-times the size of Denmark.

Five nations now lay claim to that territory, but Denmark is now the first country to declare outright ownership of the North Pole.
