Observances are planned today in New York City, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania to remember the almost 3,000 people who were killed on September 11, 2001. A ceremony at the national September 11th Memorial and Museum in lower Manhattan will include six moments of silence-to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and Flight 93. At the White House, the President and First Lady will gather on the South Lawn of the White House to observe a moment of silence there. In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, a new visitors center for the Flight 93 National Memorial opened this week and will hold an observance as well. |
