Telephones and the landlines that connect them have been a part of American households since their introduction in the latter part of the 19th century… But the cellphone is coming up close behind. In a new study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control, more than 47% of Americans use only cellphones at home, while just 8% have landlines only, and about 42% of us use both. Stephen Blumberg, the lead author of the study, says, “the tipping point is approaching.” The study also points out that poor folks are much more likely to have cellphones only. And the Midwest is the most wireless region in the nation where 52% have cut the cord. In the Northeast, just 32% of the population have done likewise. |
