Labor has claimed a landslide state election victory in Western Australia and is expected to win as many as forty-one seats in the 57 seat lower house. Mark Mcgowan will be sworn in as the state's 30th premier within days ending Colin Barnett's eight and a half year reign as WA premier.

The federal government is pushing state and territory governments to ban unvaccinated children from childcare centres. Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has written to state and territory leaders urging them to take a firm stance on the issue. Some states already prevent children from attending childcare if they have not been vaccinated but the prime minister says he wants a ban implemented nationwide.

Disgraced former Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona has revealed how he used money he raised for charity to fund his drug and gambling addictions. Simona had his registration torn up by the NRL and was handed an indefinite ban for betting on opposition players scoring and against his team winning. In an interview with News Corp Simona says he's embarrassed but denies being involved in match fixing.

And Australian snowboarder Scotty James has won gold at the half-pipe world championships in Spain. An Olympic gold medal is the only big prize left for James who defended his world championship from 2015. James is now the World Cup, world championship and X Games champion.
