The Treasurer Scott Morrison says Tuesday's federal budget will be defined by the principles of fairness, opportunity and security. The budget is set to include new spending on infrastructure, energy supply and education. Mr Morrison has also flagged a thaw in the Medicare rebate freeze and outlined measures to improve housing affordability.

Three Australian swimmers could face international bans for missing drug tests. It's alleged Olympians Madeline Groves, Thomas Fraser-Holmes and Jarrod Poort failed to appropriately update their whereabouts to drug testers in the last 12-months. The lawyer representng two of the athletes says they're being unfairly targetted.

And Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya has fallen just short of breaking the two hour barrier for a marathon. He ran the fastest 42 kilometre race ever, clocking in at 2 hours and 25 seconds in Milan. The 32-year old smashed the previous record by more than 2 and a half minutes, which was recorded in 2014.
