Foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop says she has no doubts a refugee swap deal between Australia and the US will go ahead. US officials abruptly halted their work and left the island a day after the US announced it had filled its refugee intake for the year. But the US says the officials will return and Ms Bishop says she's confident the agreement will be upheld.

A mystery surrounding human remains — found in Tasmania's wilderness last week — has almost been solved. The deceased man is thought to be Swiss national Thomas Munger who was on a trip around the world. It’s believed he died in 2010.

Tens of thousands of people across Turkey are rallying to mark the anniversary of the failed military coup. About 260 people were killed and more than 2 thousand injured when the army tried to overthrow the government last year. Turkey's president said the defeat of the plot was a victory for democracy — and promised to punish his enemies.
