The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has ended with a final hearing in Sydney. In his final address chairman justice Peter McLellan said child abuse is not just a problem of the past and it continues today. The commission will hand its recommendations to the government tomorrow and the prime minister Malcolm Turnbull says he'll read them carefully.

The Commonwealth Bank is facing multi-million dollar fines after admitting to breaching Australia's money laundering and counter terrorism regulations more than 53,000 times. The breaches relate to the bank failing to report transactions above $10,000 to Australia's money laundering regulator AUSTRAC. The bank says it will defend some of the more serious charges regarding its alleged failure to disclose suspicious transactions.

British MPs have thwarted prime minister Theresa May's Brexit plans by giving parliament the final say on any exit agreement with the European Union. The government had argued the move would jeopardise its chances of delivering a smooth departure from the European Union. The amendment passed 309 votes to 305 and was welcomed with cheers from opposition benches.
