The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says it expects charges to be laid against the ANZ Bank, its group treasurer and several other companies and individuals over an alleged criminal cartel arrangement. The ACCC says the charges are expected to be laid by the commonwealth director of public prosecutions in relation to trading in ANZ shares, following an ANZ institutional share placement in August 2015.

The Trump administration has slapped a 25-percent tax on steel and a 10-percent tax on aluminium products. The move immediately triggered vows of retaliation from the affected countries which have called the tariffs protectionism.

A civil lawsuit for rape against NRL star Jarryd Hayne appears to be headed for trial in California. The alleged victim claims Hayne raped her in his home while he was living in the US in 2015 and playing for the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. A number of his friends in Australia have been named as potential key witnesses in the lawsuit according to an update filed in the US district court.
