A man is under police guard in hospital this morning after he allegedly assaulted a seven-year-old girl and stabbed another man in Sydney's south. Police say the 54-year-old man sexually assaulted the young girl in the toilet of a dance studio in Kogarah last night. A 46-year-old man confronted the alleged offender, before he was stabbed in the stomach and neck. Both men are being treated in hospital.

Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor will seek the death penalty for five suspects charged with the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. During a lengthy press conference, the prosecutor said an intelligence officer ordered the journalist's murder, not crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. He said the journalist was given a lethal injection after a scuffle in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month.
