Chinese President Xi Jinping says China and Chile should carry forward their traditional pioneering spirit and usher in a more splendid era of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Chilean counterpart, Sebastian Pinera.

He says that Chile was the first continental Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with China, and that the China-Chile relationship serves as a model of cooperation between China and Latin American countries.

He adds that China is ready to expand investment in Chile in agriculture, mining, infrastructure and other areas, and cultivate new growth areas such as technological innovation and digital economy.

President Pinera says Chile appreciates China's important strategic achievements on such fronts as fighting COVID-19 and restoring economic growth.

He adds that President Xi's recent announcement of China's new measures on its contributions to address climate change has also made contributions to the world.

The two heads of state also exchanged congratulatory messages on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

China is calling for strengthening dialogue and communication with the U.S. to advance the healthy and steady development of bilateral ties.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to a query on the confirmed results of the U.S. presidential election, as Joe Biden officially surpassed 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the White House after Monday's Electoral College vote.

Wang also said that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Joe Biden on Nov. 25 on his election as U.S. president.

He urged the two sides to uphold the spirit of no-conflict, no-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation to promote the sound and steady development of bilateral ties.

China's surveyed urban unemployment rate stood at 5.2 percent in November, down by 0.1 percent from October.

The Israeli Defense Ministry says it has successfully tested a multi-range missile defense system.

The Ministry said in a statement the system is capable of intercepting long-range and short-range missiles.

The live-fire drills took place in an air force base in central Israel a few weeks ago.

The Israeli Defense Ministry says the drills were held jointly with the US Missile Defense Agency.

The system has been developed by an Israeli weapons and defense technology company.
