He must have sat there in his bedroom, looked straight out of the window, and seen this pilaster in front of him.

So what it actually is-it's the first of the drawings that Vincent did of the view from his bedroom window.

This funny little pilaster and it's a habit that he kept up all his life.

Every room he had been staying, he will draw what outside of it, and he began here as everything did.
