A recent proposal by the Trump administration could mean big changes for the Endangered Species Act.

That law was passed some 40 years ago. It was designed to keep endangered plant and animal species from going extinct.

So what could the proposed changes mean for threatened and endangered species in Michigan?

Brett Hartl is the Government Affairs Director for the Center for Biological Diversity, a nonprofit whose mission is protecting endangered species through activism, legal action and petitions.

He joined Stateside to talk about the impact the proposed changes could have in our state and across the U.S.

You can read the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act and comment on them here. The public comment period runs through September 24, 2018.
