密歇根新闻广播 比尔·舒特选择莱恩斯作为竞选搭档(在线收听) |
Attorney General Bill Schuette has chosen former state representative Lisa Posthumus Lyons as his running mate. The announcement was made in Grand Rapids this morning. It was the first of three events for the GOP gubernatorial candidate. Emily Lawler, a reporter for MLive who covers the State Capitol, joined Stateside to talk to us about Schuette's pick. Both Schuette and Lyons are loyal Republicans, but there is one area in which the attorney general and his running mate differ: Donald Trump. After the release of the Access Hollywood tape, in which Donald Trump bragged about being able to sexually assault women without consequence, Lyons said then-candidate Trump had not earned her respect or her vote. But Attorney General Schuette remained a vocal supporter of Trump. "He stuck by Donald Trump. Donald Trump did not forget that. He endorsed Bill Schuettevery early in the governor's race, but now he's faced with a running mate who doesn't look like the most pro-Trump person," said Lawler. When asked about her previous criticism of the president, Lawler said Lyons "seemed ready to move forward." Listen above to hear why Attorney General Schuette chose Lisa Lyons, and what happens next in approving her as lieutenant governor. |
