On 20th December 1924,

Hitler was released from Landsberg Prison and set about trying to rebuild the Nazi Party.

Despite writing Mein Kampf,

Hitler's charismatic credentials as a revolutionary were still largely based on his reputation as a speaker.

But in the mid 1920s,support for the Nazis was dropping as the economy improved.

And one of the most senior Nazis, Gregor Strasser,

On 14th February 1926,

here, in the ancient city of Bamberg,

Hitler held a special conference to deal with Strasser's proposals.

Hitler just spoke for several hours,

repudiating Strasser's ideas and was then cheered by his supporters.

One Nazi supporter later claimed he felt this when he looked into Hitler's eyes.
