If you have found an apartment you love,

but the financial burden is huge,

you may ask if there are something you could do to lower the rent.

For example, cutting the lawn, sweeping the common areas, etc.

If you find a good apartment but it lack services such as utilities,

laundry facilities, cable TV and internet access,

ask the landlord to throw some in at no charge.

Or, you could offer to sign a longer term contract

or give a higher deposit in exchange for more services.

Finally, please do not forget the following tips or warnings.

If the building allows pets, don’t be surprised if you have to pay extra damage security deposit.

If you feel that the landlord is refusing to rent to you because of your age,

nationality, sexual preference, or physical handicap,

you could always choose to report it to the local housing office.
