China's Gu Ailing wins women's freeski big air gold at Beijing 2022

China's Gu Ailing won the gold medal in the Beijing 2022 women's freeski Big Air final on Tuesday.

This is the third gold medal for Team China at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

The event is held at the Big Air Shougang in the Beijing competition zone.

China's Ren Ziwei claims men's 1,000m short track speedskating gold at Beijing 2022

China's Ren Ziwei clinched his first individual gold medal in the men's 1,000-meter short track speed skating at Beijing 2022 on Monday.

It was China's second gold at the 2022 Games after their victory in the 2,000m short track speed skating mixed team relay.

Ren's compatriot Li Wenlong took the silver and Hungary's Shao'ang Liu earned the bronze.

Italy's short track legend Arianna Fontana triumphed in the women's 500m event to win her country's first gold medal at Beijing 2022.

China to continue working for implementation of JCPOA

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China is ready to work with relevant parties to continue to make constructive efforts and resume the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

He made the remarks during a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian who briefed Wang on the latest progress on the issue.

Wang says China appreciates Iran's principled position of resolving the issue through negotiation and supports Iran in raising reasonable demands during the negotiations.

Talks on reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which have been postponed for a few days, are expected to continue in Vienna on Tuesday.

Putin meets Macron to discuss Ukraine, European security

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Moscow on Monday to discuss the Ukrainian crisis and the security issue in Europe.

Putin has told Macron that Kiev refuses to comply with the 2015 Minsk agreements on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian issue and even aims to dismantle the deals.

He has reiterated Russia's opposition to NATO's eastwards expansion.

Macron says he believes there is still opportunity to find a peaceful path for Europe, where new mechanisms are needed to ensure security and existing pacts should be preserved at the same time.

He says there is no alternative to a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis and the Minsk agreements remain the basis of it.

Cyclone Batsirai death toll rises to 20 in Madagascar

Authorities say at least 20 people have been killed in Madagascar following the passage of intense tropical cyclone Batsirai Saturday and Sunday.

An aerial assessment of the damage shows more than 69,000 people have been displaced after the cyclone swept the country.

World Food Programme representative in Madagascar Pasqualina Di Sirio says 150,000 people could be displaced by further landslides and rising water levels.

"We have right now still waters increasing in the canals, in the rivers and people are still in danger. We know for sure that rice fields, that rice crops will be damaged, will be lost so, this is the main crop, main crop for Malagasy people and they will be seriously affected in food security in the next 3-6 months if we don't do something immediately and we don't help them recover."

The United Nations and partners have delivered initial aid to the victims of the tropical cyclone in Madagascar.
